The AGSSSC 2024 Convention was held jointly with the National Toothpick Holder Collectors’ Society (NTHCS) on August 8th – 10th in Pittsburgh, PA at the Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh Airport. In addition to the usual convention meetings, auction, displays and sales, there were optional outings to the Heinz History Center, the Rochester Area Historical Society and the Riverfront Antique Mall. The Heinz History Center is Pennsylvania’s largest history museum and an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. Several attendees carpooled to the Rochester Area Historical Society for more history of the area including the role of the railroad. Afterwards, attendees were treated to shopping at the Riverfront Antique Mall. Friday night’s dinner was the “Pittsburgh Polish Supper” buffet, reflecting Pittsburgh’s Polish heritage, followed by the joint NTHCS/AGSSSC Auction. Educational seminars on Saturday morning included a presentation on 20th Century Studio Glass Toothpicks by Tom Jiamachello (NTHCS) and a seminar on Fry Glass Art Deco stemware by Mike Sabo, president of the H.C. Fry Glass Society. The AGSSSC Annual Meeting was held at noon on Saturday. Displays and sales were set up on Friday in a large meeting room to allow attendees plenty of time to peruse the offerings. The convention culminated on Saturday night with the annual banquet and awards for those who set up displays. At the end of the day, everyone had a wonderful time! We are all looking forward to the 2025 Convention!
