The 2023 convention with the National Toothpick Holder Collectors’ Society (NTHCS) took place on August 3rd – 5th at the Hilton Garden Inn Metro Airport in Detroit (Romulus) MI. The convention began with an optional outing on Thursday to visit three glass museums: the Tiffin Museum in Tiffin, OH, the Heritage Gallery in Fostoria, OH and the Glass Gallery at the Toledo Museum of Art. Both the Heritage Gallery and the Tiffin Museum offered shakers, toothpicks and other Victorian and EAPG glass for sale. The AGSSSC Board meeting was held Thursday evening with club meetings on Friday.
Dinner and the joint NTHCS/AGSSSC Auction were held on Friday evening. Educational seminars on Saturday included Tom Jiamachello’s (NTHCS) presentation on Murano glass and Robert Tong’s seminar on Findlay glass. This year the displays and sales were set up on Friday to allow attendees plenty of time to peruse the offerings. There were no sales from rooms; all shakers and toothpicks were housed in a large meeting room that was also used for seminars and meetings. The displays and sales were on Saturday afternoon. Many attendees took advantage of the plentiful offerings to add to their collections. The convention culminated with the annual banquet on Saturday night followed by thanks to the host and those who set up displays and the announcement of the winners of the NTHCS toothpicks raffle.
