MILK GLASS/PATTERN GLASS, Book 1, The Blown Molded Patterns
by Brad Gougeon
AGSSSC member Brad Gougeon has published the first book of what we hope are a series of milk glass/pattern glass books: Milk Glass/Pattern Glasss, Book 1, The Blown Molded Patterns. It may be purchased directly from Brad for $20 plus $4 shipping and handling. Contact him at 2515 E. Pineoak Ct., Midland, MI 48642. His email is bgougenie2@gmail.com. The book contains well over 100 colored pictures of individual and groups of table pieces including salt and sugar shakers. It is organized by manufacturer, secondarily by pattern name, with ample documentation of attribution including some new evidence in conflict with earlier salt and sugar shaker publications. The beginning of each section contains a time-line of the years the manufacturer made pattern glass and follows the often many changes that occurred within the company. The book is extremely readable as a learning tool, reference, and joy to view: most of the photos are from Brad’s own collection, begun over 50 years ago!
Of special interest are Brad’s notes in his Appendix on “Documentation – Attribution – Speculation” that results from group meetings held annually at the Museum of American Glass in Weston, WV. Brad is a member of this group who are dedicated to correctly identify the pattern glass we all love and collect.
